Astoria in 2050 Speculative Futures
Imagining what my neighborhood could look like in the future.
I wanted to explore how Astoria might change by 2050 and what that would mean for the people living there. The challenge was keeping the essence of the neighborhood while also factoring in things like climate change, tech, and cultural shifts. Success for me was creating a version of the future that felt real enough to spark reflection.
I looked into Astoria’s history, demographics, and everyday life, then thought about how those patterns could shift. I mapped culture, migration, and community ties while layering in ideas about technology and climate. One big insight was realizing how much people’s memories and attachment to place shape the way they imagine the future.
The project was valuable because it gave a new perspective on how Astoria could evolve while still feeling familiar. It opened space to think about what should be preserved and what changes might be unavoidable.
